The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has issued Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) certificates to 29 companies for 62 products in Ebonyi.
Dr Ifeanyi Okeke, Director-General of SON, presented the certificates to the companies during a ceremony held in Abakaliki on Friday.
Okeke stated that MANCAP aligns with SON’s mandate to promote standardisation in product manufacturing across the country.
“This empowers the companies to produce and distribute goods to consumers both within Ebonyi State and across Nigeria,” Okeke said.
Mr Chukwuma Aharanwa, Head of SON’s South East Directorate, represented the Director-General at the event.
Okeke affirmed SON’s commitment to creating value for consumers through sustained product quality and safety.
“MANCAP ensures all locally made products conform to Nigerian Industrial Standards (NIS) before entering the market or being exported.
“Following certification, we will conduct factory inspections, sampling, and testing to confirm products meet the necessary standards,” Okeke said.
According to him, certified products must be revalidated every three years. Certificates may be suspended or withdrawn if standards are not maintained.
Mrs Maryrose Ugwueche, SON State Coordinator, said the certificates reflect quality and national and international product acceptance.
She confirmed that 29 companies in Ebonyi have been certified for 62 different products under MANCAP.
Certified firms include Chillies Food Ltd for Chillies bread and Nourisher Continental Fast Food for bread products.
Other companies are Aguwa Aluminium Ltd, Joppa Table Water Ltd, Robban Store (bread), Almighty Shekinah Water, and Spring Cealis Table Water.
Vegas Restaurant and Bakery was also certified for its bread, along with several others in the state.
Mr Ikenna Emegi, Manager of Aguwa Aluminium Ltd, expressed gratitude and pledged to uphold global standards in his production.
“Today is memorable for us. I am delighted to receive MANCAP. I thank SON and God for making this possible,” Emegi said.
