WorldStage– The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) are jointly investigating the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) regarding the alleged misappropriation of a ₦12 billion (approximately $9 million) government fund.
The funds, approved by President Tinubu in January 2024 for player bonuses, salaries, and tournament costs, appear not to have reached the intended recipients.
The probe was confirmed when the NFF, responding to a freedom of information request, stated they could not produce records as the EFCC and ICPC had already seized them for investigation.
The investigation occurs amid severe on-field failures and mounting pressure for a leadership change within the NFF.
The National Sports Commission is reportedly considering intervening, while the NFF seeks FIFA support to prevent a board dissolution.
The House of Representatives is also investigating separate funds, involving $25 million in FIFA/CAF grants. Statements have been taken from top NFF officials regarding the alleged mismanagement.
