WorldStage– Nigeria’s Vice-President Kashim Shettima on Monday inaugurated the Onyearugbulem/Shagari/Irese Road Flyover in Akure, Ondo State capital.
Shettima, while inaugurating the flyover, said the project was a strategic infrastructure that would ease traffic congestion and boost economic activities on the corridor.
The vice-president said the flyover would improve traffic flow, enhance road safety, and stimulate industrial and commercial growth along the axis.
“Let me commend the Ondo State Government for undertaking this as a timely intervention at a critical transport point,” he said.
Earlier, Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa described the project as a historic achievement, noting that it is the first flyover in Akure, designed to end years of congestion and recurring accidents at the Irese junction.
He said the project, initiated under the late former Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, was completed by his administration as part of efforts to sustain continuity in governance.
Aiyedatiwa added that the project reflects his administration’s commitment to infrastructure renewal and economic development in the state.
The governor later named the flyover after the Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, who clocked 100 years on Monday.
The newly completed Onyearugbulem Flyover, was initiated by the late Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu in July 2023 and completed by the administration of Aiyedatiwa.
