The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has fully restored the Alaoji–Owerri 132kV Transmission Lines 1 and 2, bringing the critical transmission corridor back into operation and enabling normal electricity supply to parts of Imo, Bayelsa and Rivers states.
In a statement on Thursday, TCN said the two transmission lines were successfully re-energised on Wednesday evening after engineers completed repairs on faults that caused both lines to trip on June 23, 2026.
According to the company, Line 1 was initially restored shortly after the fault was identified, allowing partial restoration of bulk electricity supply to Imo State, Yenagoa in Bayelsa State, and parts of Rivers State, including Ahoada.
However, TCN explained that Line 1 was subsequently taken out of service temporarily to allow engineers safely repair Line 2. The company noted that the close proximity of the two high-voltage lines created a risk of electromagnetic induction on the faulty line if the adjacent line remained energised, posing a danger to maintenance personnel.
TCN said the temporary shutdown of Line 1 was approved by the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) and carried out in collaboration with the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) and the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC).
With repairs completed, both transmission lines have now been restored, making the Alaoji–Owerri transmission corridor fully operational and enabling EEDC and PHEDC to receive and distribute full electricity loads to customers within their franchise areas.
The company thanked affected consumers for their patience during the outage and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a reliable and efficient national transmission network.
