WorldStage— Former House of Representatives Speaker, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has met with the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd.), to demand urgent federal intervention and increased security resources to combat worsening insecurity in Sokoto State.
The former Sokoto governor and current lawmaker representing Sokoto South senatorial district was accompanied by Hon. Abdussamad Dasuki, the Deputy Minority Leader of the House of Representatives representing the Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency.
The high-level meeting followed a wave of devastating insurgent violence in the state.
Suspected Lakurawa terrorists had launched a brutal attack on worshippers during Friday prayers in Ungushi village, Kebbe Local Government Area (LGA), killing approximately 30 people and four Nigerian soldiers.
The delegation raised alarm specifically over persistent attacks, killings, and mass displacements in Kebbe LGA and Kaya community in Tambuwal LGA.
Tambuwal and Dasuki stressed the immediate need for an increased military presence, enhanced operational infrastructure, and a sustained campaign to push back armed groups.
They noted that the violence has paralyzed local farming, commerce, and daily livelihoods.
In response, Gen. Christopher Musa assured the delegation of the federal government’s full commitment to crushing the security threat.
He pledged that additional personnel, operational support, and tactical resources would be deployed swiftly to reinforce ongoing military operations in the affected communities.
Following the security briefing, Tambuwal shared updates on his official X (formerly Twitter) account where he expressed appreciation for the minister’s pledges and emphasized that local leaders would continuously engage with security agencies until lasting peace is restored to Sokoto.
