WorldStage Newsonline– The Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) Ltd has officially kicked off the second phase of its Space-Tech Accelerator Programme, reaffirming its commitment to fostering innovation in Nigeria’s fast-evolving digital and space economy.
Under the theme “Innovation in Orbit: Empowering the Next Generation of Space-Tech Entrepreneurs,” the 2025 edition of the accelerator aims to support visionary startups harnessing satellite and space-based technologies to solve pressing challenges in agriculture, healthcare, climate resilience, education, robotics, logistics, and digital infrastructure.
Programme Coordinator Mrs. Maureen Nzekwe shared insights into the growing momentum, revealing that the second cohort drew 281 applications, with 35 high-potential startups selected to proceed to the next stage.
“We are particularly proud of the surge in female-led ventures, which reflects our mission to promote inclusivity and empower women in STEM fields,” she said.
Managing Director and CEO of NIGCOMSAT Ltd, Mrs. Jane Nkechi Egerton-Idehen, emphasized the programme’s broader impact on national development.
“We are placing the power of space technology into the hands of Nigeria’s brightest innovators. This accelerator is not only nurturing tech-driven solutions but is also redefining Nigeria’s place in the global space-tech ecosystem,” she remarked.
The 2025 cohort commenced onboarding activities on June 20, with a robust schedule of workshops, mentorship, and business development sessions set to run through the coming months. These sessions are designed to refine prototypes, strengthen business models, and connect startups with experienced mentors and industry leaders.
The programme will culminate in a highly anticipated Demo Day in October 2025, where the selected startups will pitch to an audience of investors, policymakers, and global stakeholders. The event is expected to open doors to strategic partnerships, funding opportunities, and increased visibility on the global stage.
Implemented in collaboration with the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), private sector partners, and key ecosystem builders, the NIGCOMSAT Accelerator Programme is quickly becoming a national hub for transformative innovation in the space-tech sector.
