WorldStage Newsonline– The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will resume on Monday, August 18, 2025, beginning with online pre-registration.
A statement issued by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, INEC confirmed that in-person registration will commence a week later, on Monday, August 25, with both processes running concurrently until August 30, 2026.
The voter registration exercise will be conducted in 811 designated centres, comprising the 774 local government areas and 37 state and FCT offices. Registration will take place weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., excluding national public holidays.
To facilitate access, INEC will launch an online CVR Live Locator on August 17, a day before the exercise begins. The tool will help citizens locate their nearest registration centres and can be accessed via https://cvr.inecnigeria.org/locator.
Additionally, the Commission has uploaded a 38-page document listing the addresses of all 811 in-person registration centres on its official website and other online platforms. Dedicated helpdesk phone lines have also been provided for each state to assist citizens with inquiries or further clarification.
According to INEC, the procedure for both online and in-person registrations remains the same as in 2022. The Commission will release updated guides and video tutorials next week to aid the public in completing the process correctly.
POLITICAL PARTY REGISTRATION
INEC also gave an update on the ongoing process of political party registration, sayig since its last update on July 23, the Commission had received eight additional letters of intent, bringing the total number of applications to 151.
He said the new requests detailing proposed party names, acronyms, logos, headquarters, and interim leadership structures have been uploaded to the Commission’s website for public information.
“The Commission has also developed a dedicated online portal for party registration and is currently shortlisting associations that meet initial requirements,” he said.
“Final details will be released after the conclusion of the 16 scheduled bye-elections in 12 states on Saturday, August 16, 2025.”
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and public engagement, assuring Nigerians that it will continue to provide timely updates on all electoral activities.
