As stakeholders around the world commemorate World Bicycle Day 2026, BrandEscort Communications, organisers of the Cycling Lagos and Cycling Kano events, has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting a greener and more sustainable future in Nigeria and across Africa.
In a statement issued in Lagos, the Managing Director of BrandEscort Communications and Convener of Cycling Lagos, Bamidele Adeleye, called on governments, corporate organisations, development partners, non-governmental organisations, and individuals to intensify efforts towards protecting the environment for future generations.
“We have always believed that a greener future is possible. However, achieving it requires collective action from all stakeholders—individuals, corporate organisations, governments, and NGOs. We must work together to preserve the earth because we have no other place to call home,” Adeleye said.
He noted that this year’s World Bicycle Day is being observed under the theme, ‘Cycling for a Greener Future,’ which underscores the vital role of bicycles in reducing carbon emissions, improving public health, easing traffic congestion, and building more sustainable cities.
According to him, the bicycle remains one of the most affordable, accessible, and environmentally friendly means of transportation available to millions of people around the world.
“World Bicycle Day serves as a reminder that every bicycle ride contributes to a cleaner environment, healthier communities, and a more sustainable future. As cities continue to grapple with climate change, pollution, and transportation challenges, cycling offers a practical solution that benefits both individuals and society,” he added.
Since its inception, BrandEscort Communications has continued to champion cycling advocacy, road safety awareness, fitness, youth engagement, environmental sustainability, and the development of a vibrant cycling culture across Nigeria through its flagship initiatives, Cycling Lagos and Cycling Kano.
As preparations gather momentum for the 5th edition of Cycling Lagos and 2nd Cycling Kano 2026, Adeleye urged stakeholders to support initiatives that encourage cycling and sustainable mobility in the country.
“At BrandEscort, we believe that increased investment in cycling infrastructure, public awareness campaigns, and policies that support non-motorised transportation will contribute significantly to building healthier, safer, and more liveable cities.
“On this World Bicycle Day, we encourage Nigerians to embrace cycling not only as a recreational activity but also as a practical means of transportation that can help create a greener and more sustainable future for generations to come,” Adeleye stated.
