WorldStage— The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), has confirmed that two individuals suspected of having Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in Yola, Adamawa State, tested negative after two rounds of laboratory testing.
The agency said there was currently no laboratory confirmed Ebola case in Adamawa, reassuring Nigerians that the suspected cases had been investigated and appropriate public health measures initiated.
In a statement on Saturday signed by its Director General, Jide Idris, the NCDC said the report was received by the Adamawa State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre (PHEOC) in the early hours of October 30, 2026, following the identification of two individuals presenting with symptoms suggestive of the disease.
According to Idris, the individuals were immediately isolated, while samples were collected for laboratory investigations to establish the cause of their illness.
Idris noted that the samples returned negative results for Ebola Virus Disease after two rounds of testing.
The NCDC commended the Adamawa State Commissioner for Health and Human Services and his team for their proactive response, assuring that it would continue to provide technical support to strengthen the state’s response operations.
The agency, however, clarified that the previously confirmed case in the Federal Capital Territory remained the only laboratory-confirmed Ebola case reported in Nigeria.
Idris urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information or speculation, advising Nigerians to rely on official government and public health communication channels for accurate updates.
The NCDC also advised anyone experiencing symptoms such as fever, severe weakness, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea or unexplained bleeding, particularly following possible exposure, to seek immediate medical attention.
It warned against self-medication and urged individuals to provide healthcare workers with relevant travel and contact histories to support prompt diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
The agency said it would continue to monitor the situation in collaboration with the Adamawa State Government and other stakeholders, promising to provide updates as verified information becomes available.
