Public opinion on President Donald Trump’s performance across major policy areas, comparing April and September 2025 has revealed an overall disapproval remaining high, with only slight changes in approval ratings.
A recent New York Times/Siena poll tracked President Trump’s overall job performance stayed mostly steady, with disapproval at 54% and approval rising marginally from 42% to 43%.
His handling of the Russia-Ukraine war drew continued disapproval (56% to 57%) with a small uptick in approval from 35% to 37%. On the newly polled Israeli-Palestinian conflict, 56% disapproved and 36% approved.
Ratings for managing the federal government were largely unchanged, with 54% disapproval and 44% approval, while the economy saw minor improvement: disapproval fell from 55% to 53%, and approval increased from 43% to 44%.
Trade policy ratings remained stable (disapproval 53%, approval 42%-44%), and immigration saw a slight rise in disapproval (51% to 52%) and a small drop in approval (47% to 46%).
Crime, included only in September, was the exception: it received slightly higher approval (48%) than disapproval (47%).
In essence, most ratings indicate persistent public disapproval, modest gains in approval, and continued polarization of opinion on Trump’s presidency, with crime management as the only issue showing net positive public sentiment.
