WorldStage– Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring safe return of Nigerian nationals from South Africa following xenophobic incidents in the country.
The Spokesperson of the Ministry, Mr Kimiebi Ebienfa in a statement said that President Bola Tinubu remains committed to the welfare, protection and safe return of Nigerians imperiled as a result of the xenophobic incidents in South Africa.
Ebienfa said, “39 Nigerian nationals are on a flight back from Johannesburg to Lagos on emergency travel arrangements facilitated by Air Peace, to accommodate those unable to return on yesterday’s flight.
“This is to ensure there is no interruption or spillover from the ongoing pre-scheduled evacuation flights from South Africa, regarding our nationals who effected their documentation within the stipulated deadline.”
He explained that the flight was expected to arrive the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos on Friday at 20.50 p.m., while thanking the management of Air peace for collaboration and facilitation of the additional exercise.“The last evacuation flight, which is expected to bring home approximately 300 of our nationals, is expected to arrive Nigeria next week,” he said.
