WorldStage— Sunday Falae, the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) candidate for the Ondo Central Senatorial District, has called for the governorship of Ondo State to rotate back to the Central Senatorial District following the conclusion of the current administration.
Making the call, he argued that Akure, despite serving as the state capital since Ondo’s creation in 1976, has been unfairly denied the opportunity to produce an elected governor.
While Falae is focusing his immediate political ambitions on the 2027 Ondo Central senatorial seat, his recent pronouncements challenge the prevailing zoning dynamics across the state’s three districts.
At the heart of his arguments for Akure’s turn is equitable rotation, pointing out that both the North and South senatorial districts have historically produced governors.
Claiming capital disadvantage, Falae said Akure has functioned as the institutional hub of the state for five decades without executive representation.
He canvassed that voters should, beyond party lines, prioritize personality and community impact over strict political party dominance.
Falae’s agitations come amidst strategic alignment within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and opposition groups.
The current administration under Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa—who hails from the southern senatorial district—recently solidified regional control.
This has already spurred counter-agitations from groups like the Vanguard for Ondo South Development (VOSD), who want to prevent configurations that limit the South’s executive timeline.
