WorldStage– The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has acknowledged the Quality of Service (QoS) challenges currently being experienced in Abuja, which were largely attributed to disruptions in diesel supply, which have affected IHS Nigeria Limited, the colocation provider responsible for powering Airtel and MTN base stations in the affected areas.
The NCC, in a statement issued by its Head of Public Affairs, Mrs. Nnenna Ukoha said the challenges had adversely affected the quality of experience of telecommunications subscribers.
The statement said the commission was collaborating with major stakeholders and licensees to address the situation.
According to her, the challenges were largely attributed to disruptions in diesel supply, which have affected IHS Nigeria Limited, the colocation provider responsible for powering Airtel and MTN base stations in the affected areas.
She explained that the disruptions stem from the activities of the National Oil and Gas Suppliers Association (NOGASA), which led to interruptions in diesel supply to telecom sites, resulting in service outages across parts of Abuja.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring seamless communication services for all Nigerians and emphasized the critical role of reliable power supply in delivering optimal telecommunications services.
Ukoha said the NCC was actively engaging relevant stakeholders to resolve the diesel supply challenges and explore sustainable solutions, urging all parties to work collaboratively to swiftly remove the bottlenecks affecting diesel supply to critical telecommunications infrastructure arising from NOGASA’s actions.
Despite the challenges, she noted that the Commission remained committed to fostering a conducive environment for the growth and sustainability of telecommunications services in Nigeria and is facilitating dialogue between affected service providers and other stakeholders to ensure a prompt resolution of the diesel supply issues impacting service quality.
The NCC assured the public that it was effectively managing the situation and will continue to provide updates on efforts to restore full telecommunications services in Abuja. The Commission thanked subscribers for their patience and understanding and reaffirmed its dedication to delivering high-quality telecommunications services nationwide.
