WordStage Newsonline– All is set for the Iju Day 2023 celebrations by Iju community, Akure North Local Government of Ondo State on 4th November, 2023 with a plan to launch a N250 million appeal fund for developmental projects within the community.
The National President, Iju Progressive Union (IPU) Mr. Akin Oluwalade said at a press conference at Iju on Tuesday that personalities expected at the occasion include the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Odunayo Akeredolu (SAN), the Secretary to the State Government, and members of the State Executive Council, Honourable members of the National and State Assemblies, and other political appointees and friends of the community.
IPU, the organiser of the event is the umbrella body of all Iju sons and daughters, both at home and in diaspora. It is non – political and non-religious in mode and actions and therefore stands for Unity, Progress and Development of our town Iju.
Oluwalade said the N250 million fund raising “is very important as community development cannot be left in the hands of government alone and Iju town has always been in the forefront of community self-help.”
He said the Day will be Chaired by a renowned Legal Luminary, industrialist, philanthropist of international repute and politician – Hon. (Barr) Olumuyiwa Adu while Chief Launcher is Barrister Temilolu Adamolekun, to be supported by other prominent Co-Launchers and the Chief Host will be Senator Tayo Alasoadura with the Commissioner for Youths and Sports in Ondo State, Hon. Dele Ologun as Special Guest of Honour.
He listed other activities lined up for this year’s celebration to include: Football competition among the seven quarters in the town, as well as private and public secondary schools; Free health programme for the citizen. Covering health checks (various tests and examinations) and prescription and distribution of free drugs; Sales of various authentic and genuine agrochemicals to farmers at subsidized rates. These chemicals will include, insecticides, fungicides, herbicides as well as farm tools like cutlass, hoes and files among others; and Cultural displays and paying of homage to the Okiti – in – Council.
He used the occasion to thank Governor Akeredolu for elevating Oba of Iju, Kabiyesi HRH Oba Amos Adelakun Farukanmi to the prestigious “Grade A” Status, saying, “We shall continue to appreciate this kind gesture and wish Mr Governor well in all ramifications.
