WorldStage— Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has received the newly crowned 400m hurdles Commonwealth Games champion, Corporal Ezekiel Nathaniel, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Sunday, August 8, 2026.
Nathaniel made history at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games by storming to victory in the men’s 400m hurdles final.
He clocked an impressive 48.47 seconds to claim Nigeria’s first-ever gold medal in the event, improving drastically on his previous sixth-place finish at the Birmingham 2022 Games.
He also secured a bronze medal in the 4x400m relay, solidifying his role as a standout performer for Team Nigeria.
During the reception, IGP Disu praised the 23-year-old athlete for flying both the national and institutional flags high on the international stage.
Disu, an avid sportsman himself, remarked that the historic victory underscores the longstanding, twin-like relationship between the Nigeria Police Force and athletic excellence.
While noting that Nathaniel’s triumph serves as a powerful inspiration for all officers, he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to personnel welfare.
The police boss pledged increased institutional investment to identify, nurture, and support talented sports personnel within the ranks.
He emphasized that a physically strong and spiritually robust Force is better equipped to serve the nation effectively.
