WorldStage Newsonline– Preparations are in top gear for this year’s edition of Iju Day on 2nd of November, 2024 at Iju Community in Akure North LGA of Ondo State under the chairman of Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde, a Director in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
According to a statement signed by Mr Isaac Akin Oluwalade, National President and Mr Tayo Adaramodu, National Secretary, the epoch making event being organized by Iju IPU will have the Ondo State Governor, Hon Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa as a Special Guest of Honour while a N250 million Development Fund will be launched on the D-Day.
The statement said Mrs. Modupe Ogunsuyi Bademosi will be the Chief Launcher of the development fund to be ably supported by eminent co-launchers, launchers, various societies and friends of Iju community.
“Other eminent personalities being expected at the event include sons and daughters of Iju in Diaspora, Senators, House of Representatives and House of Assembly Members, Hon. Commissioners and other members of the State’s Executive Council, Political appointees, business moguls, traditional rulers and other friends of the town,” the statement said.
The statement said the day will feature a variety of activities which will include: Football Competition; Cultural Displays; Health Outreach/Health Checks; Various Display of Agricultural Produce, Seeds and Seedlings as well as Sales & Distribution of quality agrochemicals, among others.
“Other programmes will include paying of Homage to the Okiti-in-Council by the seven Quarters in the town, Non-Indigenes as well as artisans and other interest groups,” the statement said.
“Award of Excellence shall be given to some deserving personalities while HRM, The Okiti of Iju will confer honourary Chieftaincy titles on some prominent individuals.
The statement appealed to all stakeholders to attend en-masse so as to make the event a memorable occasion.
