WorldStage– The All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling party has commenced activities for the 2027 presidential race, with James Faleke picking up the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on April 28, 2026.
The move formally signals the start of the President’s re-election campaign ahead of the party’s upcoming primaries.
The party had recently released a revised timetable for the 2027 general elections, outlining the following schedule for the presidential race:
Sale of Forms: April 25 to May 2, 2026; Submission Deadline: May 4, 2026; Aspirant Screening: May 9, 2026; and Presidential Primary: May 23, 2026.
The exercise, conducted at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja and the Ladi Kwali International Conference Centre, marks the opening phase of the party’s internal electoral process ahead of its presidential primaries scheduled for May 23.
In a move widely seen as an early signal of intent, the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, James Faleke, collected the nomination forms on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Party officials described the development as part of initial mobilisation efforts for the president’s anticipated re-election bid.
Faleke, a longstanding political ally of the president, was accompanied by senior figures within the party during the exercise.
The forms were handed over by members of the party’s National Working Committee, led by the Deputy National Chairman (North), Abubakar Dalori, alongside the National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Muhammad Argungu.
Other party leaders in attendance included the Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Duro Meseko; the National Vice Chairman (North Central), Bawa Rijau; and the National Women Leader, Mary Aliele.
According to the party’s Secretariat, the total cost for the presidential nomination remains fixed at ₦100 million (₦30 million for Expression of Interest and ₦70 million for the Nomination form).
While several state chapters and party leaders, including those in Jigawa and the North Central zone, have already endorsed President Tinubu as their sole candidate, the APC National Secretariat has maintained that the contest remains open to all members.
The party’s National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, clarified that no qualified aspirant will be denied the opportunity to purchase forms and participate in the democratic process.
