WorldStage– President Bola Tinubu on Thursday officially sworn in Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN) as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The swearing in was performed at the State House, Abuja.
The event, attended by senior government officials and dignitaries, marked the beginning of Amupitan’s five-year tenure, succeeding Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who concluded his decade-long leadership of the electoral body.
While administering the oath of office, President Tinubu charged Professor Amupitan to safeguard the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process, strengthen institutional capacity, and uphold the principles of neutrality and professionalism in the conduct of elections.
Amupitan’s appointment followed a swift and transparent process, beginning with the President’s nomination in early October, endorsement by the National Council of State on October 9, and subsequent confirmation by the Senate on October 16, 2025.
