The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) has intensified nationwide efforts to strengthen financial accountability across its state chapters while equipping members with critical tools to protect their intellectual property in the rapidly evolving digital publishing landscape.
The initiative comes in response to growing concerns over administrative transparency and the rising threat of digital piracy, which continues to undermine the livelihoods of writers across the country.
According to its national executives, establishing a more transparent financial framework is paramount to restoring confidence among corporate partners and international literary donors.
Under the new directives, all state chapters are mandated to adopt standardized digital accounting systems, undergo periodic internal audits, and present comprehensive financial reports at annual general meetings.
By modernising its fiscal operations, ANA aims to eliminate financial irregularities and ensure that resources are directly utilised for grassroots literary development, workshops, and author welfare.
The association also launched a series of nationwide capacity-building workshops focused on digital rights management (DRM) and intellectual property protection.
As traditional print media faces stiff competition from e-books, audiobooks, and online serial platforms, Nigerian authors are increasingly exposed to unauthorised distribution and copyright infringement.
Legal experts and digital publishing consultants have been engaged to train writers on navigating copyright laws, understanding smart contracts, and utilizing blockchain technology to track digital sales.
The workshops also educate members on how to legally challenge online platforms that host pirated versions of their works.
National leadership of the association emphasized that while the digital age offers unprecedented global reach for African literature, it demands that writers become highly vigilant entrepreneurs.
ANA reiterated its commitment to establishing a dedicated legal desk to provide subsidised copyright litigation support for its registered members.
Through these combined reforms, the Association of Nigerian Authors is not only safeguarding its organizational integrity but also empowering the contemporary Nigerian writer to thrive securely in the global digital economy.
Litigants and stakeholders have widely praised the move, describing it as a defining step toward professionalizing the creative writing industry in Nigeria.
