The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun for the 2027 election, Sen. Solomon Adeola, has empowered 2,557 farmers with equipment, farm inputs and cash grants.
Speaking on Tuesday in Ilaro, Adeola said the second edition of the empowerment programme was designed to tackle low productivity, high cost of farm implements and limited access to finance.
He said beneficiaries received 10 tractors, 250 haulage tricycles, 1,500 knapsack sprayers, 8,000 bags of NPK and urea fertiliser, 1,000 water pumps, 1,000 seed planters and 17 power tillers.
According to him, the farmers also received seeds, seedlings, organic fertilisers and other farming tools, while each beneficiary was presented with a cash grant of N100,000.
Adeola said the initiative aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on food security.
“A major highlight of the Renewed Hope Agenda on agriculture of the President is the drive to ensure all year-round farming with a target for three farming seasons annually.
“This target has led President Tinubu to allocate over N350 billion for reticulation and desilting of various dams across the nation.
“I am sure that Ogun-Osun River Basin Authority in Ogun state is part of the initiative and we are all poised to benefit from this laudable initiative,” he said.
He said the Federal Government had also acquired 2,000 tractors nationwide and budgeted N12 billion for the new Ministry of Livestock, with ranches planned for Ogun and six other states.
The senator said economic reforms had begun yielding results, noting that inflation had declined significantly while prices of basic food items had reduced in many markets across the country.
He commended Gov. Dapo Abiodun for complementing federal agricultural initiatives through support for farmers and youth farmland schemes.
He urged beneficiaries not to sell the items but to use them to boost food production, adding that a central management team would oversee tractors and other motorised equipment for sustainability.
