WorldStage— The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Benin Sub-Region, has apprehended a 24year old suspected vandal for allegedly removing cables and wires from a marshalling kiosk at its 330kV switchyard.
The suspect, identified as Mr. Wisdom Amaunam of Erediauwa Community, was arrested at about 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, by a TCN security officer during a routine patrol.
According to TCN, the security officer caught the suspect tampering with the marshalling kiosk and removing cables and wires from the installation.
He was subsequently handed over to the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) Unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation.
The suspect remains in custody pending the conclusion of investigations and possible arraignment.
TCN commended its security personnel and the NSCDC for their vigilance and collaboration in protecting critical national power infrastructure.
The company reiterated its zero-tolerance stance against vandalism, trespassing and sabotage of electricity transmission facilities, warning that such activities threaten the stability and reliability of the national grid.
It also urged host communities and members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities around transmission installations to security agencies or the nearest TCN office.
