Mr Ayodele Wisdom, Minister of State for Youth, has appealed to protesters against the Federal Government to be peaceful, as government was doing all it could to address the economic challenges.
Wisdom made the appeal on Thursday in Abuja, while speaking with members of the Tinubu Support Group (TSG) who came out to rally support for the current administration.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that members of the group were seen carrying placards with various inscription such as, “Say no to protest, Tinubu-led administration means well for Nigerians”.
The minister while reacting to the ongoing nationwide hunger protest, organised by some youths, said there was no need for such agitation.
He, however, said that those protesting against the government had the right to do so, but must conduct themselves in a peaceful manner.
The minister assured that government had put in place, critical policies and programmes that would guarantee a better society for all Nigerians.
“For those protesting against the government, we are even together, we advise that they should protest within the law and avoid destroying public infrastructure.
“This administration is people centered and is doing everything possible to positively impact the lives of Nigerians, through various policies that are being implemented.
“President Tinubu is doing a lot, we have no doubt that things are hard, we agree with you, but the Federal Government is currently implementing policies that will ensure a better Nigeria.
“The policies are for the good of all of us, our future and for our unborn children. This president meant well for Nigerians,”he said.
The minister expressed optimism that the country would get better under Tinubu because he has put in place, the right policies to ensure its greatness.
According to him, the president is taking bold steps, including the approval of a new minimum wage and the students’ loan scheme among others, to address some of the country’s challenges.
He said that because the Federal Government was centered on the people, the Local Government autonomy was recently approved by the Supreme Court.
This would further bring government closer to the people at the grassroots and to ensure development.
The minister advised youths not to allow themselves to be used by political elements, to disrupt the peace currently enjoyed in the country.
Mr Tosin Adeyanju, TSG National Coordinator, said that Tinubu deserved commendation from Nigerians because of his laudable programmes and policies, not protest.
Adeyanju who is also the Executive Secretary, National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF), said the president should be commended for the bold steps taken for the removal of fuel subsidy.
“This is one president that has said that the stiffening of those at the grassroots was enough, by giving back local government autonomy to the people.
“This has never happened in this country since the birth of democracy in 1999 and I think what the president deserve is commendation not protest,” he said.
