WorldStage– The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has released the UK passport bio-data page of Matthew Chukwuemeka Adebiyi to resolve public controversy regarding his name following his extradition to the United Kingdom
Adebiyi was formally handed over to UK law enforcement officials on April 14, 2026, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos
He faces allegations of involvement in the killing of Joshua Boadu on June 18, 2018 in the United Kingdom, after which he reportedly fled to Nigeria, and of supply of crack cocaine (a Class-A controlled drug) between October 2017 and March 2018.
The NPF took the step of sharing his passport bio-data page after social media users accused the force of “ethnic bigotry” for including the name “Chukwuemeka” in their official statements
The released bio-data page confirmed his full name as “Adebiyi Mathew Chukuemeka.”
The UK Metropolitan Police also verified via email that their records identify the suspect as “Matthew Chukuemeka Adebiyi,” corroborating the NPF’s report
UK authorities submitted a formal request in September 2024 for extradition of Adebiyi who was apprehended by INTERPOL NCB Abuja operatives on January 23, 2025.
Justice A.O. Faji of the Federal High Court in Lagos granted the extradition application on February 16, 2026, under the Extradition.
