WorldStage Newsonline– In a rare show of unity and levity, Senator Abdul Ningi (Bauchi Central), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports, moved a motion of commendation for Nigeria’s national women’s football team following their semifinal victory over South Africa’s Bayana Bayana in the ongoing African Women’s Championship.
Describing the team’s win as a “sweetener” amidst recent national mourning—following the deaths of General Muhammadu Buhari, businessman Alhassan Dantata, and Oba Adetona—Ningi praised the Tinubu administration for adequately supporting the Super Falcons. He also called for national prayers as the team aims to win a record 10th continental title.
Akpabio, visibly enthused, praised the “golden goal from outside the 18” and quipped that the goal appeared “guided by angels,” adding humorously that even the opposing team was “confused.”
He pledged to recommend Ningi as head of the Nigerian delegation to the finals in Morocco, pending presidential approval.
