WorldStage– Minister of Power, Mr Joseph Tegbe, has commended Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) and Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) for their commitment to improving power infrastructure across the country.
Tegbe in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja particularly lauded TCN for the successful energisation of a new 300 Megavolt Ampere (MVA) transformer at the Katampe Transmission Sub-station in Abuja, saying the development would significantly expand transmission capacity in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The minister also praised the collaboration between TCN and AEDC, leading to their swift response to last Friday’s sudden failure of a 100MVA transformer in the FCT which disrupted electricity supply to some parts of the territory.
He was particularly happy that both organisations quickly mobilised technical resources and worked round the clock to restore electricity supply within 24 hours.
Tegbe described the feat as a demonstration of effective inter-agency collaboration and proactive service delivery, in line with the objectives of the ministry of power.
He equally commended the management of NDPHC, led by its Managing Director, Mr Jennifer Adighije, for the successful revival of the 450-megawatt Alaoji Open Cycle Power Plant in Abia.
The minister said that the plant, a key national asset developed under National Integrated Power Projects (NIPPs), had been inactive for three years before its restoration.
He noted that the facility was now positioned to dispatch up to 375 megawatts of electricity to the national grid, thereby enhancing power supply in the South-East and improving the overall grid stability.
Tegbe assured workers and agencies in the power sector that productivity, professionalism and excellence would continue to be recognised and rewarded under his leadership.While reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s power infrastructure, Tegbe urged stakeholders in the sector to remain focused and innovative in their efforts to improve electricity supply to homes, businesses and industries across the country.
