WorldStage– The Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Dr Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, has been elected Chairman of the African Accountants-General in the Kingdom of Eswatini.
Mr Bawa Mokwa, Director, Press and Public Relations Office of the AGF, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja.
Mokwa said the AGF was elected during the Annual General Meeting of the association held in Eswatini.
He said Ogunjimi secured a decisive victory in the election, polling 83 per cent of the total votes cast.
He said Tanzania received 11 per cent, while the Republic of The Gambia polled six per cent.
According to him, the AGF’s election is a demonstration of the confidence reposed in his leadership, professional competence, and commitment to strengthening public financial management across Africa.
He said it also reflected the recognition of Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to promote transparency, accountability, and reforms in public sector financial administration.
“As Chairman of the African Accountants-General, Dr Ogunjimi is expected to provide strategic leadership in advancing collaboration among member countries.
“This will promote the best practices in public financial management, and strengthening institutional capacity across the continent,” he said.Mokwa congratulated Ogunjimi on this significant achievement and expressed confidence that his leadership would enhance cooperation among African nations in advancing sound public financial management.
