WorldStage— The Nigerian Navy and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have destroyed 329,865.585 kilogrammes of assorted illicit drugs and psychotropic substances valued at ₦301.058 billion in Lagos.
The drugs, comprising cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, cannabis, ephedrine, tramadol, codeine syrup and other opioids, were destroyed during a public exercise conducted by the NDLEA Lagos State Strategic Command at the Nigerian Navy Marine Centre, Navy Town, Ojo, Lagos.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, said the exercise brought together representatives of the Nigerian Navy, NDLEA, Lagos State Government, Nigeria Customs Service and other stakeholders.
He said 246,864.535 kilogrammes of the substances were seized by the NDLEA Lagos State Strategic Command between April 2025 and May 2026.
Another 83,001.050 kilogrammes were recovered by the MMIA, Tin Can, Apapa Strategic Commands and the NDLEA Marine Command.
The substances had an estimated street value of ₦301,058,076,000.
Speaking at the exercise, the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Abubakar Mustapha, who represented the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, stressed the importance of sustained inter-agency collaboration in tackling emerging security threats.
Mustapha commended the longstanding partnership between the Nigerian Navy and NDLEA, particularly in disrupting illicit drug trafficking networks and interdicting vessels of interest.
He reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the NDLEA and other relevant agencies to combat maritime-related criminal activities and enhance national security.
The Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohammed Marwa (Rtd), described the exercise as a demonstration of Nigeria’s collective resolve to permanently remove seized illicit substances from circulation.
Marwa said destroying the seized drugs would also deny criminal elements the resources required to sustain their activities.
The Nigerian Navy reaffirmed its commitment to deepening cooperation with the NDLEA and other security and law enforcement agencies to disrupt illicit drug trafficking networks and promote a safer and more secure maritime environment.
