WorldStage Newsonline– The Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) has assured the Lagos State Truck and Cargo Operators Committee (LASTCOC) of adequate cooperation for effective haulage operations in Lagos.
The assurance was given on Tuesday in Lagos when the committee paid a courtesy and familiarisation visit to the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Bolaji Oreagba.
The committee had gone to see how it could synergise with LASTMA to enhance traffic sanity, orderliness and safety of life of road users, especially in the Apapa/Tincan logistics corridors.
While receiving his guests, Oreagba congratulated Zangalo and members of his committee on their appointments.
He expressed readiness of LASTMA to work with the committee to promote the Lagos State Government THEMES agenda in the area of transportation for economic growth and development of the state.
“The committee should sensitise its drivers on the need to comply with traffic rules and regulations all the time and desist from fighting LASTMA operatives.
“They should guard against indiscriminate parking of trucks causing traffic obstruction along the Apapa/Tincan Ports corridors for traffic and sanity orderliness purpose,” he said.
Responding, Zangalo appreciated the LASTMA general manager for hosting the committee and promised that the committee would give maximum support to LASTMA to achieve its mandate of promoting free flow traffic in Lagos State without rancour and acrimony.
Recall that the LASTCOC was formed recently by the Lagos State Government, with Alhaji Lukman Zangalo, as its chairman.
It was mandated to serve as a channel of communication between the state government and the maritime trucking community.
The committee was also created to address the menace of street urchins, popularly called ‘area boys’ and check issues of multiple tickets being imposed on truckers by various road transport unions, local governments and non-state actors.
