WorldStage– In a move to douse the crisis with the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association (PENGASSAN), the Dangote Group has decided to redeploy refinery engineers who were sacked for joining the association to its sugar and cement operations.
The company will also recruit new engineers to replace them, sources disclosed.
Sources further revealed that the move represents a significant loss, as many of the affected engineers were trained abroad to build the refinery.
“The workers will be redeployed to sugar, cement, and other business units. Some of us are pained because of some of those affected. They are prospects, and the company had good plans for them,” one source in the refinery said.
An official of the refinery added, “Dangote had no issue with the workers’ decision to join a union, but the act of sabotage could not be tolerated.”
Some of the 800 affected workers may also be reassigned to Dangote’s operations outside Nigeria.
