WorldStage Newsonline– President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio on Tuesday recanted on his recent comment to Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan Natasha that the Senate was not a night club where she could interject in proceeding when it wasn’t her turn.
Tendering the apology, Akpabio said he would not deliberately denigrate any woman because his wife is a woman and that he also has four beautiful daughters who are women.
He regretted that his comment was misunderstood and completely taking out of context by the social media adding that the uproar in the social media over the comment could ignite a form of regulation on it.
Last week, Akpabio told Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, senator representing Kogi central not to speak like she was in a “night club”.
Akpoti-Uduaghan had spoken without being recognised by the senate president.
Addressing the Senate in plenary on Tuesday, Akpabio said he would never intentionally denigrate any woman.
“I will not intentionally denigrate any woman. The connotation was totally misunderstood. Instead of thinking of the nature of what was said. I will not intentionally denigrate any woman and I always pray that God will uplift women, ” he said.
The senate president confessed that his phone and that of his wife had been bombarded with calls and text messages, most of them insults.
