WorldStage– In a major boost to Africa’s peacebuilding and development agenda, representatives of the African Union Commission (AUC) from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, paid a strategic working visit to the Pan-African AU Agenda 2063 Diplomatic Mission in Abuja, Nigeria, to strengthen collaboration on key initiatives aimed at advancing peace, security, economic integration, and sustainable development across the continent.
The high-level engagement focused on deepening institutional cooperation between the African Union Commission and the Pan-African AU Agenda 2063 Diplomatic Mission, with particular emphasis on the development of the Community Peace Monitoring (CPM) Application, a flagship digital innovation designed to support conflict prevention, early warning systems, community-based intelligence gathering, and peacebuilding efforts throughout Africa.
The initiative aligns closely with the African Union’s flagship programme, “Silencing the Guns in Africa,” which seeks to eliminate violent conflicts, strengthen peace and security institutions, and create a conducive environment for sustainable development and prosperity on the continent.
During the discussions, both parties reiterated that peace remains the foundation upon which the aspirations of Agenda 2063 can be achieved. They stressed that Africa’s economic transformation, political stability, and social development depend largely on the ability of governments, institutions, and communities to prevent conflicts and resolve disputes through dialogue and collaboration.
Presenting the Mission’s strategic interventions, the Global President of the Pan-African AU Agenda 2063 Diplomatic Mission, Amb. Dr. Stephen Gbatigbi Ben-Joel, showcased several innovative projects being championed by the Mission to accelerate the realization of Agenda 2063 across Africa.
Among the projects presented was the Pan-African Continental Super Marketplace (PAC-SM) and its accompanying digital application, a technology-driven platform created to facilitate seamless intra-African trade, connect buyers and sellers across borders, support African businesses, and strengthen the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Also highlighted was the Mission’s proposed Pan-African Tourism Application, designed to promote Africa’s rich cultural heritage, tourism destinations, investment opportunities, and people-to-people exchanges, while enhancing the continent’s visibility as a global tourism destination.
The delegation was equally briefed on the Mission’s Limestone Block Technology Initiative, which seeks to promote affordable, environmentally sustainable, and durable housing solutions across Africa. The project is expected to contribute significantly to addressing housing deficits while encouraging local industrial development and job creation.
Discussions further covered the Mission’s ongoing Housing Development Programme and its growing investments in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Projects, including recently commissioned community water schemes aimed at improving access to clean and safe water for underserved populations in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and Agenda 2063 aspirations.
The African Union Commission delegation led by Mrs Orit Ibrahim, who is the head of the AUC Head of the Early Warning Continental Situation room commended the Pan-African AU Agenda 2063 Diplomatic Mission for its innovative and practical approach to continental development, particularly its commitment to leveraging technology, community engagement, and strategic partnerships to address Africa’s most pressing challenges.
Both organizations agreed to explore broader areas of collaboration and partnership in support of peacebuilding, economic integration, digital transformation, infrastructure development, youth empowerment, environmental sustainability, and social inclusion. They reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing the African Union’s vision of a peaceful, prosperous, and integrated continent driven by its own citizens.As Africa continues its journey toward the realization of Agenda 2063, the African Union Commission and the Pan-African AU Agenda 2063 Diplomatic Mission pledged to work together in promoting innovative solutions that will silence the guns, strengthen continental unity, expand economic opportunities, and improve the quality of life for all Africans.
