WorldStage Newsonline– The Anglophone Countries Committee of Network of African Data Protection Authorities (NADPA) has appointed Dr Vincent Olatunji, National Commissioner, Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) as its Chairperson.
Mr Babatunde Bamigboye, Head, Legal, Enforcement and Regulations, NDPC in a statement said the committee would serve as a multilateral platform for promoting data privacy and protection among Anglophone states.
Bamigboye quoted Olatunji as emphasing the important role data protection in Africa’s digital transformation.
He called on member states to join forces and ensure that data protection was a collective responsibility aimed at safeguarding the privacy rights of Africa’s 1.4 billion people in the global data ecosystem.
The national commissioner expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed on Nigeria to lead the committee.
Nigeria would also host the NADPA 2025 Annual General Meeting and conference from May 6 to 8.
The theme of the conference is: “Balancing Innovation in Africa: Data Protection and Privacy in Emerging Technologies.”
The conference would highlight Nigeria’s progress in data governance and showcase milestones in Nigeria’s efforts toward building a sustainable digital economy.
