WorldStage– Former Senator, Bello Mandiya, who represented the Funtua Senatorial District (Katsina South) in the 9th National Assembly, has passed away at the age of 62.
The news of his demise was broken early Tuesday, September 9, 2026by his close associate, Malam Maiwada DanMalam, in a social media announcement.
DanMalam disclosed that the funeral prayer for the former federal lawmaker was scheduled for Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Apo Legislative Quarters in Abuja.
Confirming the incident, the Katsina State Government stated that the veteran politician died late Monday evening in Abuja after a brief illness.
Ibrahim Mohammed, the Chief Press Secretary to Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, issued an official statement late Monday night detailing the state’s grief and confirming the burial arrangements in the federal capital.
Reacting to the news, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda expressed deep shock and sadness over Mandiya’s sudden passing, describing it as a “great loss” to both Katsina State and Nigeria.
“I received with shock and deep sadness the news of the death of Senator Bello Mandiya,” Governor Radda said in his tribute.
“His passing is a monumental loss. Senator Mandiya dedicated a significant part of his life to public service and served our people with unwavering commitment. His contributions at both the state and federal levels will remain etched in our memories.”
Before his legislative career in the Red Chamber, Mandiya served distinguishedly as the Chief of Staff to the former Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Bello Masari.
He later transitioned to the federal stage, winning the Katsina South senatorial seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag, where he served from 2019 to 2023.
During his time in the 9th Senate, Mandiya was known as a dedicated legislator who championed several key development bills for his constituency, including a prominent legislative push to establish a Federal University of Agriculture and Technology in Funtua.
Tributes have continued to pour in from political associates, friends, and former colleagues in the National Assembly, who remember him as a reliable friend and a principled public servant.
Governor Radda has extended heartfelt condolences to Mandiya’s immediate family, former Governor Masari, and the entire people of the Funtua Zone, praying that Almighty Allah grants the deceased eternal rest.
