WorldStage— The Federal Government of Nigeria has disbursed ₦38.93 billion to 166 public tertiary institutions across the country under the Needs Assessment Revitalisation Fund to address infrastructure gaps and improve teaching and learning facilities.
The beneficiaries comprise 79 universities, 46 polytechnics and 41 colleges of education, with the funds earmarked for approved projects aimed at strengthening infrastructure and enhancing the quality of education in the institutions.
Universities account for the largest share of the disbursement, receiving ₦28.5 billion collectively, while polytechnics have been allocated ₦5.8 billion. The 41 colleges of education will receive a combined ₦4.7 billion.
The intervention is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to address critical needs in public tertiary institutions and support the implementation of agreed measures under the Memorandum of Understanding between the government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The funding is expected to enable beneficiary institutions to commence or accelerate approved projects targeting critical infrastructure deficiencies and other identified institutional needs.
The initiative is also intended to strengthen institutional capacity and improve the learning environment for students and academic staff across Nigeria’s public tertiary education system.
Effective coordination among the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Federal Ministry of Education and the beneficiary institutions will be critical to ensuring that the funds are utilised transparently and that the intervention delivers measurable improvements in educational infrastructure and service delivery.
