WorldStage– The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has declared readiness to recommend the immediate suspension of Royal Air Maroc’s operational permit in Nigeria over persistent violations of passenger rights.
The airline is flagged as a primary offender for repeated, unannounced baggage short-landing and chronic delays without providing timely updates to affected passengers.
The threat which was announced by Michael Achimugu, the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, stated that the aviation regulator will no longer tolerate the Moroccan flag carrier’s continued disregard for national aviation standards.
The NCAA cited an extreme lack of empathy and care during flight disruptions, noting that mandated “first-need” compensations are routinely denied or ignored.
The carrier’s Country Manager, Ahmed Boussouf, has allegedly repeatedly ignored official summonses to Abuja, instead sending representatives who lack the authority to resolve grievances or make institutional commitments.
The NCAA emphasized that Royal Air Maroc was previously sanctioned and fined in late 2024 for consumer protection breaches under Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations.
While the airline paid its financial penalty in September 2025, the aviation authority noted that customer complaints have continued unabated.
Under the direct instructions of Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, the regulator has shifted toward strict enforcement, including a new initiative to publicly “name and shame” non-compliant operators.
The regulatory body maintains that international airlines operating under Bilateral Air Services Agreements (BASA) must strictly respect Nigerian travellers or face total operational bans.
