WorldStage– Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, remains in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja following his detention earlier this week over alleged financial improprieties amounting to ₦432 billion.
El-Rufai was taken into custody on Monday, February 16, after honoring an invitation from the anti-graft agency for questioning concerning transactions and financial activities during his tenure as governor of Kaduna State between 2015 and 2023.
Although sources indicate that the former governor has been granted administrative bail, he is said to have yet to meet the stipulated conditions, including the provision of required sureties. As a result, he remains in detention pending compliance.
Reports further suggest the presence of operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS) around the EFCC facility in Abuja, fueling speculation about a possible re-arrest in connection with separate allegations reportedly linked to cybercrime investigations.
Meanwhile, the EFCC is said to be seeking a court remand order to lawfully extend El-Rufai’s detention beyond the initial 48-hour period, as investigations continue.
As of yet, neither El-Rufai’s legal team nor the EFCC has issued an official public statement providing detailed clarification on the matter.
