The Head of the Catholic Church worldwide, Pope Francis, is dead.
Aged 88, he was confirmed dead by the Vatican in the early hours of Monday, a day after he appeared at St. Peter’s Square on Easter Sunday.
According to the Vatican,
Pope Francis died at his residence in the Vatican’s Casa Santa Marta.
According to the Vatican news service, Cardinal Farrell said: “His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and His Church.”
Pope Francis has passed away due to complications from double pneumonia.He died after a prolonged battle with health issues, including chronic bronchitis and pulmonary problems.
The Pope had been hospitalized several times during his papacy, with his final hospitalization beginning on February 14, 2025.
His death marks a significant moment for the Catholic Church, as it sets the stage for a high-stakes election to determine his successor.
Pope Francis will be remembered for his efforts to modernize the Catholic Church and his focus on issues like climate change, migrants, and social justice.
