WorldStage Newsonline– Hon. Olarewaju Festus Akingbaso, a member of House of representatives representing the Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency in Ondo State has lamented that the Idanre/Ifedore federal constituency lacked ranking members in the green chamber to qualify for taking up any of the more important principal offices at the lower legislative chamber.
To enjoy occupation of any of the principal positions in the National Assembly a federal lawmaker must be more than first-timer.
Akingbaso told WorldStage in his office at the National Assembly complex that the habitual voting out of Rep members from the constituency after first term was responsible for the development.
He therefore called on voters from the area to look beyond personal interests and sentiments and cast their votes to return their representative if they desire to have their own as one of the principal officers in the chamber and enjoy the advantages that come with such position.
“Our problem is that the constituency, with its votes, has consistently been denying representatives from the area the opportunity of returning for second or further terms and unknowingly denying itself a shot at any of the major legislative positions,” he stated.
He added that people of the constituency didn’t realize the disservice they were doing to themselves by voting out first-time representative because of sentiments or little dissatisfactions.
Akingbaso impressed that development would only come readily and massively to the constituency if and when its representative is an occupier of one of the principal parliamentary offices reserved for ranking members.
He disclosed that he was especially in difficulty situation with the Ijare community of the constituency over some matters which its people refused to show understanding.
He explained that all he was trying to do was to facilitate development and better ways of using and enjoying utilities in the community, but that the people were unfortunately misinterpreting his motives.
He however assured that he would meet the people of the community again to discuss with them his good intentions for their community and its environs.
The House of Representatives member is currently pursuing a deputy gubernatorial prospect in one of the leading political parties in Ondo State.
