WorldStage– President Bola Tinubu says the people of Ondo State are resilient, industrious and commited to democratic ideals, as the state marks its 50th anniversary.
Tinubu represented by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo on Tuesday in Akure at the celebration of Ondo State’s 50th anniversary assured of his commitment to fairness, equity and inclusiveness in governance, irrespective of religion, political affiliation or social background.
He said Ondo State citizens demonstrated discipline, participation and civic responsibility during the last general elections, while their conduct strengthened Nigeria’s democracy.
Tinubu paid tribute to traditional rulers, religious leaders, elders, civil servants, farmers, artisans, traders and other citizens for their contributions to the growth and development of the state over the past five decades.
The president recalled that Ondo State was created 50 years ago to bring governance closer to the people and to harness local potential.
He also said the state had since distinguished itself in education, public service, culture and economic development.
According to Tinubu, the state has produced notable leaders and professionals, whose contributions have positively impacted national growth and stability.
“To the youths of Ondo State, the president sends a special message. You are the architects of the next fifty years.
“Your energy, innovation, education, and commitment to service are vital to sustaining the state’s development and strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.
“Embrace these values, and let your creativity, determination, and discipline drive Ondo State to new heights of prosperity and excellence.
“Fifty years is a significant milestone, but it is also a call to action. Let us deepen unity, strengthen democracy, and expand opportunities for all citizens.
“Ondo State has shown that when people work together with purpose, discipline, and vision, great things can be achieved.
“As we celebrate today, let us commit to ensuring that the next fifty years surpass the first in prosperity, innovation, peace, and inclusiveness,” he said.
In his address, Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, said it was his conviction that governance must be people-centred, inclusive and sustainable to equally translate into improved lives, expanded opportunities and restored confidence in public institutions.
Aiyedatiwa said his administration was determined to ensure that the next chapter of the state’s story was written with boldness of ideas, innovation of methods, compassion in leadership and integrity in execution.
“Fifty years is indeed a major milestone and it compels us to reflect deeply and to ask ourselves a defining question: What kind of Ondo State are we deliberately building for the next 50 years?
“To our youths, I say with absolute conviction: this Golden Jubilee is yours. You are not merely inheritors of history; you are its authors.
“The future of Ondo State will be shaped by your creativity, discipline, and courage and we are committed to equipping you to lead that future with confidence.
“To our elders and fathers of the land, we say: your wisdom remains our compass, your counsel our anchor, and your legacy our responsibility,” he said.
Also, Gov. Abiodun Oyebanji of Ekiti, congratulated Aiyedatiwa and the people of Ondo State for the milestone.
