WorldStage– The Nigerian Navy is in a strategic engagement with a delegation from the Egyptian Navy Special Forces Brigade under an ongoing cross-attachment programme to strengthen indigenous shipbuilding capability and maritime special operations readiness.
During the visit, the Egyptian delegation was hosted at Naval Dockyard Limited (NDL), Lagos, where they received detailed briefings on the Dockyard’s operations, including depot maintenance, ship design and construction.
The Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, who disclosed this in a statement, said the engagement also featured technical sessions and a guided tour of critical facilities, enabling both navies to exchange expertise and reinforce collaboration in local shipbuilding and fleet sustainment.
He further noted that the delegation took part in intensive joint training exercises with the Nigerian Navy Special Boat Service (NNSBS), focusing on high-level operational competencies such as maritime interdiction, Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS), and hostage rescue operations.
According to him, “The exercises incorporated complex tactical scenarios, including coordinated insertions and real-time mission simulations, followed by structured debriefings where participants shared operational insights and best practices.”
The Nigerian Navy said the combined engagements highlight its sustained push to build a technologically advanced and combat-ready force through strategic partnerships and targeted capacity development.
The initiative aligns with the vision of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, to deepen indigenous capabilities, enhance operational effectiveness and strengthen defence diplomacy.
The Navy reaffirmed its commitment to projecting maritime power, advancing regional cooperation and safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime interests.
