WorldStage– Nigeria’s National Assembly is scheduled to resume plenary activities on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
The lawmakers are currently on an end-of-year recess after the presentation of the 2026 Appropriation Bill by President Bola Tinubu on December 19, 2025.
While plenary sessions are suspended, legislative committees have remained active during the break to conduct budget defense sessions and finalize reports on the fiscal estimates.
The primary agenda upon reconvening, according to the Assembly’s media office, will be to deliberate on the outcome of the budget defense exercises and move toward the final passage of the 2026 Appropriation Bill.
Lawmakers are expected to continue work on significant amendments to the 1999 Constitution, including potential reforms to the electoral system.
The Assembly has proposed November 2026 as a target for the next general elections, which will necessitate legislative focus on electoral laws early in the year.
