The National Mass Metering Programme of the Federal Government is now operational in Kebbi State.
It was flagged off this Tuesday at Gwadangaji, near Birnin Kebbi by Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu.
Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu commended President Muhammadu Buhari for such initiative aimed at correcting billing for electricity consumers ensuring uninterrupted power supply.
The Governor expressed confidence about the metering system, which allowed users of electricity to pay what they consumed to boosting other businesses and enhance industrialization.
He affirmed readiness to support and cooperate with Kaduna Electric Distribution Company, KAEDCO for the benefit of the people of Kebbi state.
Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu as Director Representing North West Zone in the Niger Delta Power Holding Company commended KAEDCO for its choice of Kebbi state to flag off the National Mass Metering Programme.
Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu acknowledged the effort of his Special Adviser on Energy, Alhaji Yusuf Haruna Rasheed for his contribution to the attainment of regular electricity supply to Kebbi state.
He was also appreciative about the effort of the Managing-Director Kaduna Electric, Engineer Garba Haruna Garkuwan Kabi for purposeful leadership towards moving Kebbi state forward.
In a remark, the Special Adviser on Energy, Alhaji Yusuf Haruna Rasheed thanked Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu for providing financial support for securing round-the-clock power supply to the state.
He said the governor had procured transformers and other facilities to improve electricity in the state and fill the gap in unpaid bills.
Alhaji Yusuf Haruna Rasheed appealed to the Federal Government to reduce electricity tariff in Kebbi state for bearing the bulk of power lines from Kainji and Jebba to servicing other parts of the country including Republic of Niger.
On his part the Managing Director of KAEDCO Engineer Garba Haruna (Garkuwan Kabi) said the metering initiative was conceived by the Federal Government to ensuring all customers using electricity were provided with meter to avoid bill estimation.
Engineer Garba Haruna told the gathering that, more than 500,000 meters would be installed in the KAEDCO area of coverage of Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara states.
He further announced that 2,000 youths would be engaged and trained to install the meters in Kebbi state.
After the flag off the Managing-Director conducted Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu round facilities which include IC room facilities and new meters of three categories.
At the event a new prepaid meter was fixed to the residence of Mallam Faruku Sahabi Gwadangaji to mark the flag-off.
The ceremony was witnessed by the Speaker State House of Assembly, Chief Judge of the State, Representative of Grand Khadi, Commissioners, Members of House of Assembly, Special Advisers, Secretary to the State Government, Representative of Emirs, District Heads, Commissioner of Police and Heads of other Security Agencies.
