WorldStage—The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has emerged as one of the top three best-performing Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government in the 2026 Public Service Reforms Performance Assessment conducted by the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR).
The Commission secured the third position in the nationwide assessment, which evaluated MDAs on key reform indicators, including the Self-Assessment Tool (SAT), Freedom of Information (FOI) Compliance Score, Fiscal Transparency and Integrity Index, as well as official website performance metrics.
The Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) and the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) ranked first and second respectively.
The annual assessment recognises MDAs that have demonstrated outstanding commitment to public service reforms, transparency, accountability and excellence in service delivery.
Representing the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, at the award ceremony held on Tuesday in Abuja, the Executive Commissioner, Technical Services, Engr. Abraham Oshadami, described the recognition as an affirmation of the Commission’s sustained reform efforts.
Speaking on behalf of the NCC and other award recipients, Oshadami commended the BPSR for maintaining the annual performance assessment framework.
“On behalf of all awardees and the Board, Management and staff of the Nigerian Communications Commission, we thank the Bureau for these recognitions. For us at NCC, this recognition acknowledges our ongoing reform efforts and underscores the need to sustain them,” he said.
He noted that the award would further encourage government agencies to deepen their commitment to improved service delivery, adding that it validates the Commission’s initiatives aimed at promoting transparency, accountability and efficiency in the telecommunications sector.
According to him, the recognition also reflects the Commission’s efforts to enhance service quality, transparency and responsiveness for telecommunications consumers across the country.
“For our telecommunications consumers, this recognition reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen service quality, transparency and responsiveness across the sector. The assessment outcome also reinforces the importance of maintaining standards that support improved customer experience and greater confidence in telecom services nationwide,” Oshadami stated.
He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to deploying effective regulatory tools and innovative approaches to improve service quality and strengthen consumer protection across Nigeria’s telecommunications industry.
Over the past two years, the NCC has introduced several reforms to enhance transparency and accountability. These include the launch of the National Coverage Map, which provides near real-time information on network availability and performance nationwide, and the publication of Quarterly Network Performance Reports detailing operators’ service quality.
The Commission has also directed Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to simplify tariff communications to make them clearer and easier for consumers to understand, while enforcing compliance with updated Corporate Governance Guidelines designed to strengthen corporate accountability and operational efficiency.
In addition, the NCC has prioritised the proactive publication of timely and comprehensive industry data to improve public access to information and enhance accountability within the telecommunications sector.
In his remarks, the Director-General of the BPSR, Mr. Dasuki Arabi, commended all participating MDAs, particularly the top-performing agencies, for demonstrating commitment to transparency, accountability and open governance.
He said the annual public service lecture and awards ceremony, organised to commemorate the United Nations Public Service Day, provides a platform for recognising government institutions that have distinguished themselves in implementing reforms and delivering quality public services.
The latest recognition builds on the NCC’s strong performance in previous assessments, having been ranked the second-best-performing Federal Government agency in the 2025 BPSR website performance evaluation.
