Justice Binta Fatima Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja, the Nigeria’s capital, has sentenced Hamatu Modu to a total of 40 years imprisonment on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, for providing food items and vital information to Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State.
Modu confessed in the open court to supplying food items and information to terrorists and pleaded guilty to all charges immediately upon being arraigned by the Federal Government.
He was then put on trial by the federal government through the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.
The 40 years sentence sums from 10 years for each of the four counts against him and the sentences are to run concurrently, meaning he will serve 10 years in total.
The judge ordered that Modu must undergo rehabilitation and de-radicalization programs after serving his jail term.
The case was led by the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation (DPPF), Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN.
On the same day, Justice Nyako sentenced Isah Ali, another food supplier to the insurgents, to 10 years imprisonment, while Sheu Buka received a 20-year sentence for selling goats to the group.
The Federal Ministry of Interior has been directed to determine the specific correctional facility where Modu will serve his term.
