WorldStage– The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declined a request to recognize the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Kabiru Turaki.
The faction is prominently supported by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State.
In a letter dated December 22, 2025, INEC stated it cannot acknowledge or upload the list of national officers from this faction due to subsisting court judgments and unresolved legal processes.
The commission cited specific Federal High Court judgments from October and November 2025 (Suits FHC/ABJ/CS/2120/2025 and FHC/ABJ/CS/2299/2025) as primary factors in its refusal to act on the November 15–16 Ibadan convention outcomes.
While the Turaki-led group maintains they are the authentic leadership resulting from a valid convention, INEC has maintained that it will wait for final judicial pronouncements, particularly pending cases at the Court of Appeal, before changing its official records.
The PDP remains split between the Makinde-backed Turaki faction and a rival faction led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, which is supported by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
