WorldStage– The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has reinforced its standing among Nigeria’s leading public institutions in transparency and institutional integrity with an 80.13 per cent score in the 2026 Transparency and Integrity Index (TII).
The ICPC’s Spokesperson, Mr John Odey, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, saying the latest assessment placed the commission second among 518 federal institutions evaluated nationwide.
According to him, the commission was among only four institutions that attained the “Excellent” performance band of 70 per cent and above in the 2026 assessment.
Odey said the latest result represented an improvement on the commission’s 2025 performance, when it scored 78.13 per cent and ranked third among 575 institutions assessed.
He said the commission’s score increased by two percentage points in 2026, moving from 78.13 per cent to 80.13 per cent and improving its national ranking from third to second position.
“ICPC’s performance represents a further improvement on its 2025 rating, when the commission scored 78.13 per cent and placed third among 575 institutions,” Odey quoted the statement as saying.
He added that the commission’s improved performance reflected the continued strengthening of its internal transparency, accountability and institutional integrity mechanisms.
Odey also quoted the Chairman of the ICPC, Dr Musa Aliyu, SAN, as expressing delight that the commission’s efforts were independently recognised through the latest assessment.
Aliyu described the outcome as an encouragement for the commission to deepen the institutional reforms and transparency measures being implemented across its operations.
“I am delighted that the progress we are making as a commission is being independently recognised,” Aliyu said.
He stressed that an anti-corruption agency must demonstrate the same standards of transparency, accountability and integrity that it expects from other public institutions.
“For an anti-corruption agency, we understand that we must not only demand transparency, accountability and integrity from other public institutions; we must also demonstrate these values in our own systems and operations,” he said.
Aliyu, however, cautioned the management and staff of the commission against complacency, saying the latest rating should serve as an incentive to achieve further improvements.
He said greater attention would be devoted to strengthening the commission’s performance across all the thematic areas covered by the Transparency and Integrity Index.
“This rating is an encouragement for us to do more,” the chairman said, adding that the commission would carefully examine its performance across the various thematic areas.
Aliyu said the commission would identify areas requiring improvement and strengthen the necessary systems to enhance its performance in subsequent assessments.
“Our objective is to perform even better in the 2027 assessment and continue to demonstrate the standards of transparency and integrity that we expect from other public institutions,” he said.
The ICPC chairman also commended the management and staff of the commission for their contributions to the achievement, urging them to regard the rating as an incentive for further improvement.
He charged them to strengthen transparency, accountability and professionalism in the discharge of the commission’s anti-corruption mandate.
The 2026 Transparency and Integrity Index was unveiled in Abuja on Monday, 28 September 2026, in the presence of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Dasuki Ibrahim Arabi; and representatives of government institutions and civil society organisations.
CeFTPI established the Transparency and Integrity Index in 2021 as an annual evidence-based assessment of public institutions, withy emphasis on proactive disclosure, accountability, citizens’ access to information and institutional mechanisms for preventing corruption.
