WorldStage– Borno State has emerged as state that benefitted most from the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), introduced by the Federal Government to provide financial support for students in tertiary institutions.
Fresh data released by the Fund showing the top ten states that have so far benefited the most from the scheme, Borno came first.
According to the figures, Borno State leads with 61,384 beneficiaries, reflecting the high demand for educational support in the region. Kano State follows closely with 57,983, while Kaduna State ranks third with 45,002 beneficiaries.
Other states in the top ten include Katsina (43,602), Oyo (33,223), Bauchi (33,027), Kwara (31,640), Plateau (31,314), Gombe (31,308), and Taraba (26,505).
The distribution shows a balance between northern and southern states, underlining NELFUND’s national reach.
NELFUND was established to make higher education more accessible by removing the financial burden on students and their families.
Through the initiative, thousands of young Nigerians are being supported with loans to cover tuition and related expenses, ensuring that financial challenges do not prevent them from pursuing their academic dreams.
Education stakeholders have welcomed the progress, noting that beyond expanding access, NELFUND has the potential to transform the country’s human capital development and reduce inequality in education.
With more states continuing to key into the program, observers believe the scheme will play a major role in empowering Nigerian youths for a brighter future.
