WorldStage Newsonline– Chrysoula Zacharopoulou, the French Minister of State for Development, Francophone and International Partnerships, has paid a working visit to the Agricultural and Rural Management Training Institute (ARMTI), Ilorin, Kwara State.
During her visit, Zacharopoulou engaged in discussions and activities aimed at exploring potential collaborations and partnerships between France and ARMTI.
The visit highlighted the importance of international cooperation in addressing global challenges related to agriculture, rural development, and food security.
Zacharopoulou’s visit to ARMTI underscores the institute’s growing reputation as a hub for agricultural training and development, not only within Nigeria but also on the international stage.
Just as the institute rounded up Zacharopoulou’s visit, it also played host to the Nigeria’s Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi.
The visit of the minister was considered by the institute as a significant milestone that not only recognized ARMTI’s pivotal role but also sparked insightful discussions on the institute’s journey towards shaping the future of agriculture in Nigeria.
Abdullahi’s visit, according to the institute, represents a collaborative effort towards the evolution of ARMTI’s role as a key player in addressing critical national challenges.
“As the institute embraces modern innovations, inclusivity and technological advancements, it reaffirms its commitment to shaping a sustainable and prosperous future for Nigeria’s agricultural sector,” the institute’s Public Relations Office stated.
It added that ARMTI had taken a significant stride in advancing sustainable agricultural practices in Nigeria and that it recently successfully concluded an intensive training workshop focused on greenhouse farming for women and youth at the ARMTI North West Regional Training Centre in Kaduna.
“The workshop marks a pivotal moment in empowering participants with the essential skills for modern agriculture,” it stated.
Highlighting the scope of the workshop, the public relations department headed by Mr. Mayowa Gidado, outlined it as enhancing skills in greenhouse farming that covered a wide array of topics including location and significance; curriculum highlights; positive feedback; and future plans.
On location and significance, it said the workshop took place at the ARMTI North West Regional Training Centre in Kaduna as a strategy to benefit women and youth across Nigeria’s North West region, arguing that the location served as a hub for disseminating sustainable agricultural practices and empowering local communities.
On curriculum highlights, the department disclosed that participants immersed themselves in practical instruction, gaining insights into greenhouse management, crop selection, soil health, and irrigation techniques.
“The comprehensive curriculum ensures that each participant is well-equipped to implement sustainable practices in their agricultural endeavors,” it added.
With regard to positive feedback, it declared that the impact of the workshop resonated positively with participants who expressed overwhelming gratitude for the opportunity to acquire new skills and knowledge.

Recognizing the need for heightened efficiency in human capital, Senator Abdullahi emphasized the importance of aligning agricultural practices with contemporary standards for sustainability and progress.
According to ARMTI, the minister’s forward-looking perspective prompted a call for a comprehensive appraisal and evaluation of ARMTI’s training programmes which aims at ensuring that the institute remains dynamic and responsive to the evolving needs of the agricultural sector, fostering innovation and adaptability.
Aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 8-point agenda, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi encouraged the active participation of youths and women in agriculture in order to address national challenges and promote diversity within the agricultural landscape.
Abdulahi, recognizing the importance of staying abreast of modern realities, recommended the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into ARMTI’s training programs to equip trainees with the essential skills needed to navigate the digital landscape of contemporary agriculture.
Speaking on financial precision, transparency, and strategic planning as crucial elements for success in agricultural development, the minister’s recommendations culminated in a call to the institute to revisit its strategies and strengthen its efforts in food security and poverty alleviation.
