WorldStage– Idris Bala Musa, Secretary of the Grassroots Mobilisation Network (GMN), a support group of a Nigeria’s opposition party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has accused President Bola Tinubu of having a hand in the current crisis rocking the party.
In a respond to remarks made by President Bola Tinubu on Friday, 17 April 2026, the group alleged that the President’s comments at the Presidential Villa confirm the Presidency’s active involvement in the internal crisis currently rocking the ADC.
Bala Musa in the statement was reacting to Tinubu’s claim that former VP Atiku Abubakar tried to privatise the ADC, with the owners refusing.
Bala described the comments as deeply disturbing, suggesting the Presidency is an active participant in opposition party struggles rather than a neutral party
The group defended the ADC as a party owned by Nigerians, not an asset to be auctioned, and warned that such interference threatens Nigeria’s multi-party democracy.
Bala said, “President Tinubu, among other things, alleged that former Vice President Atiku wanted to privatise the ADC, but the owners said no. In the same breath, Tinubu advised that as a democrat, people should obey court orders and the law.“These statements, coming from the nation’s highest office, are deeply disturbing and troubling. They confirm what Nigerians have long suspected — that the Presidency is behind the ADC crisis and is not a mere spectator but an active player in the troubles rocking viable opposition parties, including the ADC.”
