WorldStage Newsonline— Teachers from selected six technical colleges and three vocational centres in Asaba, Delta, will benefit from the World Bank and EU assisted 120,000 dollars (N36.6million) State Employment and Expenditure for Results Project (SEEFOR).
The Commissioner for Education, Mr Chiedu Ebie, at the inauguration of the project on Tuesday, said that this was aimed at boasting digital learning system in schools in Delta.
Teachers from selected six technical colleges and vocational centres in the state are participating in the programme.
Ebie said that the digital learning system would help reposition and upgrade the standard of technical colleges and vocational centres in the state.
He said that the programme would help to facilitate learning in the institutions and enable students of the colleges learn beyond classrooms.
He said that the state government was poised to promoting technical education, hence, the state governor’s premium on entrepreneurship and skill acquisition.
While commending the World Bank, EU and the state government for the initiative, Ebie urged the participants to take full advantage of the training to acquire the desired knowledge.
“It is your responsibility to impact the knowledge gained from this training to your colleagues and students, who are not opportune to attend,’’ he said.
The commissioner called on well-meaning individuals and corporate organisations to assist the project with sponsorship of similar workshops for teachers and students to improve the standard of teaching and learning in schools.
The state SEEFOR project coordinator, Mr Benson Ojoko said that the digital integrated learning system was one initiative the state government had developed to bridge the knowledge gap between teaching and learning.
“Through this initiative, the curriculum for the six trades that are presently running in the technical and vocational colleges in the state will be translated into the digital learning platform.
“In the sense that both the teachers and the students cannot only learn in the classroom but can continue the classroom experience outside of the classroom.
“We are going to install in all the Information Communication Technology departments of the technical and vocational institutions and give each of the students a digital IPAD to ensure they will continue the same learning experience outside the school.
“The digital IPAD is both online and offline, so they will not have any challenge with internet connectivity when they want to work with the offline,’’ he said.(NAN)
